Affixing Mortal Toil onyx

I was wondering what would happen if you affix a Mortal Toil onyx to a pet that already has one of the two abilities the jewel gives. I know if a jewel is affixed prior to a talent being manifested then the jewel is replaced by the ability nullifying the jewel. Would it only nullify part of the jewel or the entire jewel or would you be able to have double of a stat?
