I know that I can use a training point by giving it to a professor and that, if I do, I have to get the spells in order.
It also looks like I could spend my training points with the trees for each school. How does that work? It looks like you still need to go in some sort of order. Do you actually have to give up a lower spell to get the next one up (like you do the reagents)?
Is it better to use them with professors or trees? Why?

With the professers, you have to go in order from the beginning spell of that school.
For other trainers like Niles, the balance tree, that secret trainer in Colossus blvd, and Mindy PixieCrown, you have to be a certain level to learn the spell, you don't need to go in order.
