It's the minions. Notice that Grumish has two powerful minions while Krokopatra only has one? The final bosses of Celestia are of the Astral School, which raises the question of why they actually get Power Pips, since they cannot use them. The fact that they cannot use their Power Pips is what makes the Trial bosses easier than others.
