Locked out of Dragonspyre again

We've completed Moohsu with our second set of wizards, gotten the spiral key, saved the emperor, etc., but when we go back to talk to Merle all he says is he needs to ponder things. What's up with that? I'm sure we didn't miss anything as far as quests.

Okay, idiot here.

I did the final quest here with my son.

I did not talk to the guy on the platform before the battle: one I saw the Jade Oni I jumped into battle.

I did not talk to the guy after the battle with the Jade Oni.

I was SO excited I hit the "home" button and went to Ambrose.

My son showed up after talking to that guy AFTER THE BATTLE and he got to go to Dragonspyre.

I had to go back and fight the Jade Oni again! Now I always remember to talk to the guy on the platform before and after the battle.

Oh, I talked with the emporer after I fought the Oni, got the key, and all that. But when I go back to talk to Ambrose, I get nothing.
